AP Art History Students Explore Met Museum

V. Parker
St. Luke’s AP Art History class visited one of the world’s greatest classrooms: Manhattan’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The field trip was a scavenger hunt of sorts as the students searched the museum for works related to their curriculum.

Students observed artwork that spanned the globe, including African ceremonial masks, a 14th-century Persian mihrab (a niche in a mosque wall), and masterpieces from across the Western World. Upper School Art Chair and AP Art History teacher Sean Lynch said, “The annual Met trip provides the AP Art History students an opportunity to see extraordinary artwork in person. They had all been to the Met several times before, but this was a new experience as the students were now exploring the museum as art historians.”
