What we learn from watching and playing sports

St. Luke’s hosted the annual Fathers and Friends Breakfast with Head of School Mark Davis. Davis was joined by guest speaker, Sean McManus, CBS Sports Chairman, to discuss how we can positively influence our kids through both playing and watching sports with them.

More than 70 dads, including a good number of incoming St. Luke’s fathers, were treated to a delicious breakfast provided by our chefs at Flik. The St. Luke’s Dining Room Commons and Forese Family Fireplace Commons were buzzing with conversation and fellowship. Following breakfast, everyone joined together to listen as McManus shared his unique insights and stories about the lessons that can be learned through sports.

Lively conversations ranged from The Masters to NFL coverage and featured stories from McManus and Davis. Some discussions tackled both the inspiration and contradictions that are present in sports. Ultimately, the group in attendance recognized the importance of talking with our kids about the messages that come to us through sports. The group also chatted about how engaging with our children during a particular sporting event can enhance the experience for all involved.
