Spring Storm Play-off Picture

As the regular spring season came to a close this past weekend, our attention turned to the FAA playoffs this week.

Boys Varsity Lacrosse finished as the number six seed and traveled to Greens Farms Academy on Monday, May 13. The Storm battled hard throughout, but the Dragons pulled away in the second half to claim victory.

After finishing as the number five seed, Girls Varsity Lacrosse traveled to Hamden Hall on Monday, May 13, for a 4:30pm game. The Storm suffered a narrow 9-12 loss against the Hornets earlier in the season and suffered another tough loss 6-10.

Varsity Baseball finished as the number six seed and played the three seed Brunswick School in Greenwich on Tuesday, May 14. The Storm found it tough going against a talented Bruins team and was outscored 12-2.

Varsity Softball hosted Greens Farms Academy, also on Tuesday. The Storm beat the Dragons 7-3 to set up a semifinal with number two seed Hopkins School. St. Luke’s trailed 1-4 early but a huge fifth inning turned the game on its head as the Storm raced into a 10-4 lead. The Hilltoppers would get three runs back before another impressive batting display in the seventh gave SLS a huge 15-7 victory.

The result set up an intriguing final against Holy Child School. The two teams met back on April 16 with the Gryphons winning a tight contest 14-10. The Championship game will be played at Holy Child on Friday, May 17 at 3pm.

The Storm also qualified for the Western New England Class C tournament and will play at Harvey School in the semifinal on Saturday, May 18 with the winner advancing to Sunday’s final.

Both Boys and Girls Varsity Tennis competed in the FAA tournament on Tuesday, with events being played at Sound Shore Tennis in Port Chester. Jack Truwit ‘20 had a great run all the way to the final but had to settle for the runners-up medal after a hard-fought loss to Evan Lee of Brunswick School.

The Girls Squad was selected to play in the NEPSAC Class C Tennis Tournament this weekend. The Storm was given the number three seed and will play Newton Country Day School at 11:30am on Saturday, May 18 at Kingswood-Oxford School in West Hartford, CT.

The St. Luke’s Golf team hosted King School on Thursday, May 16, and celebrated the team’s four seniors. The Storm rounded out the regular season with a 6-0 win against King School. Jack Maguire ‘19, is his last home match for the Storm, low-scored with Jack Fitzgibbon ‘21 as the pair both shot 35. Next up for the Storm is the FAA tournament on Monday, May 20, at Bedford Country Club. St. Luke’s is looking to win its fourth straight FAA title.
