St. Luke's Golf Wins Fourth Straight FAA Title

Daniel Clarke
The St. Luke’s Golf team capped off another outstanding season on Monday, May 20, winning its fourth straight FAA Tournament title at Bedford Golf and Tennis Club.

Strong winds and some torrential rain made it a challenging day for the golfers, but the Storm finished with an overall total of 397, 20 shots ahead of the second-placed team Rye Country Day School.

Captains Jack Maguire ‘19 and Mark Gertsen ‘19, representing St. Luke’s for the final time, shared the second lowest score of the day, both shooting 77. Jack Fitzgibbon ‘21 tied for fourth with a 79, Ben Loomis ‘21 shot 80, Matt LaGuzza ‘19, also representing St. Luke’s Golf for the final time, scored an 84, and Eoin Mueller ‘22, playing in his first FAA tournament, pitched in with a 92.

It was the perfect end to a wonderfully successful four years for Maguire, Gertsen, and Laguzza. The team finished the year with just one loss overall, and Gertsen was proud of the way his fellow golfers played: “This year’s team is possibly the best I have played on, as there is so much depth from top to bottom. I’m so happy we have fulfilled our potential by going undefeated in league play and winning the FAA tournament again. We were never thinking about winning four in a row, but it’s a great honor to add to the number of championships this team has won.”
