Distinguished Faculty Award to Nancy Walsh

V. Parker
The presentation of the Edward B. Blakely Distinguished Faculty Award kicked off the 18th Annual State of the School program. This year’s award recipient was Middle School math teacher Nancy Walsh. The award is named after the School’s founder and given to a teacher who exemplifies Mr. Blakely’s founding values of excellence and character.

During the program, Mark Davis shared, “Nancy has been one of the most valuable and valued members of the Middle School faculty since joining the School in 1979. Patient and professional, Nancy engages her students in a firm yet supportive manner that inspires them to rise to every occasion. Like a great coach, she knows her Xs and Os. Just as important, she also knows how to get the most from her students, who are always eager to please her, to go above and beyond for her. For many years, she applied her coaching gifts to leading the Middle School Math Team, while also creating such memorable classroom learning activities as the Geometry Valentine Project and ‘designing the perfect bedroom.’ And all Middle School students know Mrs. Walsh for the Problem of the Week, with which she makes math fun and accessible to everyone. Both admired and loved, she’s been the heart and soul of middle school math for as long as most of us can remember.”
