MS Artwork of the Week: Denis Gannon '26, Sheridan Whitacre '26

Haley Wulfman
Congratulations to Denis Gannon '26 and Sheridan Whitacre '26 for winning Artwork of the Week!

When you look at Denis's print, it may not be immediately fully clear why this work is so exceptional. Denis created the print of a face by etching lines into a styrofoam plate, and inking the surface with marker. He then soaked a piece of cotton rag paper with water, and pressed the plate onto it, activating the ink so it would transfer. The whole thing could have turned to a blur! However, Denis had already worked to develop skills to encourage himself while working, so he wasn't easily discouraged. Having also recently spent some time exploring at the Collage Center in Ms. Wulfman's room, he also recognized that some of the textural papers could be used to make prints...so he used this one to create the impression of snakeskin! Exceptional!

Sheridan took up the challenge to paint on a leaf, and did a beautiful job. Her painting of a cozy hut against a purple and blue sky with the silhouette of two palm trees close by is stunning! She had to use a tiny brush to paint this scene with, and believe in the impossible as she was doing it! Who would think you could paint on a crumbly, delicate leaf?
