10th Graders Sort Thousands of Holiday Gifts for Nonprofits

V. Parker
From Director of the Center for Leadership Kate Parker-Burgard:

St. Luke’s sophomores got a taste of what it might feel like to be an elf. On Saturday, many 10th graders assisted in moving and sorting thousands of holiday toys for donation. Through various nonprofit organizations, more than 2000 Fairfield County children created wish lists and requested two holiday gifts.

Our students’ main job was to keep the gifts organized, while other volunteers (including some of our sophomores) were busy wrapping. An unused pool at Inspirica served as the central spot to organize and keep track of all the presents. It was an ambitious task to get the gifts where they needed to go and to make sure they were put in the right place. With the help of holiday music and great spirits, the St. Luke’s volunteers worked hard all day and got the job done.
