Hockey's Home Away From Home

Daniel Clarke
For just over seven years, St. Luke’s Hockey team has called SoNo Ice House its home, where they have spent countless hours on the ice and in the team’s state of the art locker room.

SLS has a full suite next to the main rink, complete with varsity and middle school locker rooms, bathroom and shower facilities, a training room, and a coach's office. None of this would have been possible without the generosity of a St. Luke’s family back in 2012.

The SLS suite includes custom wooden lockers, including larger lockers fitted for goalies, flat-screen televisions, a full work station for coaches, a training table, a Bluetooth sound system, and various other amenities.

The facilities are also decorated with numerous photos, jerseys, and other memorabilia celebrating the history of St. Luke's hockey.

The bonds formed among players and coaches at the teams home away from home have had a significant impact on the development of the program. The program boasts a stable of experienced coaching staff who benefit from the top-of-the-line facilities and a team that regularly compete for the FAA Championship.

The grit and determination instilled into the puck squad were on show again in the team’s most recent game against Kingswood Oxford School on Wednesday, January 22. Despite surrendering a two-goal lead late in the game, the Storm dug deep in overtime to secure a 5-4 victory with a goal from senior captain Lars Ernberg.

The overtime win improved the team to 1-1 in FAA league play. The Storm returns to FAA action at home on Wednesday, January 29, against The Harvey School.
