St. Luke's Hosts Special Olympics Basketball Tournament

Daniel Clarke
St. Luke’s hosted the annual Special Olympics and Unified Sports Basketball Tournament on Thursday, March 5, inside Carey Gymnasium.

Teams from New Canaan High School, Trumbull High School, Stamford High School, Norwalk High School, and New Canaan YMCA competed in a fun-filled event.

Prior to the games, Beau Doherty, President of Special Olympics Connecticut, thanked St. Luke’s for its continued support of the Special Olympics as the only private school in the state to host events.

Four St. Luke’s students were honored for their outstanding service to the Special Olympics and Unified Sports in Connecticut. Jack Truwit ‘20, Jackson McManus ‘20, Sadie Vehslage ‘20, and Lars Ernberg ‘20 were all recognized for their contributions towards the two programs.

The St. Luke’s spring sports athletes were in attendance to cheer on the players and make it an afternoon to remember for all the teams. The spirit was evident until the very end as during the final game, featuring Trumbull vs Trumbull, our Boys Varsity Lacrosse team provided a special moment serenading both teams with the chant “Let’s go, Trumbull, Let’s go!”
