St. Luke's Boys Varsity Lacrosse: Season Outlook

Daniel Clarke
The St. Luke’s Boys Lacrosse Team is expecting to have an impact this year, as it welcomes back an experienced group of players as well as some younger talent.

Head Coach Andy Towers returns for his fourth season with the Storm and is excited to see what his players can achieve: “This preseason has been one of the best to date in terms of the amount of player buy-in. Enthusiasm is at an all-time high, and the returning varsity players are committed to helping our team reach its full potential. The entire coaching staff is eager to see what the boys  can do this season.”

Jerry Rutigliano ‘20, Ned Cunniffe ‘20, Justin Pearl ‘21, and Hayden Critchell ‘21 will captain St. Luke’s this spring. Towers expects the group to lead by example: “I know each of them will be an exemplary model of focus, effort, and toughness. We will rely on their leadership, and I am convinced they will do a great job.”

Rutigliano could miss the entire season after picking up an injury just before preseason. Towers knows it is a blow for the Storm. However, he is confident Sully Franz ‘22 will provide excellent cover in the face-off role: “Losing Jerry is obviously a big hit for us, and I’m sure it will be a relief to the teams on our schedule. However, this is a great opportunity for Sully to step up and cement his position on the team.”

Towers believes he has a group of players who can compete against anyone on the schedule, if they work together: “We have some very talented individuals, but we need everyone on the roster to contribute to help our team reach its full potential. I think Pearl is one of the best players in this league. He is hyper committed to reaching his potential as an individual and as a team player. Nick Brown [‘20], Phil Platek [20], Wes Meyers [‘20], Critchell, Nick Garcia [‘22], Dillon Mannix [‘22] are all very skilled players, too. We will rely on them heavily this year.”

The Storm welcomes back Austin Andersen ‘21, as well as newcomer Will Moskowitz ‘25. Towers is thrilled to have them on board: “Austin’s return will be great for the team, as he’s one of the best athletes in the school. Moskowitz is one of the most skilled guys on the team and a great decision maker. Even though he is in seventh grade, Moskowitz is going to play meaningful minutes for us.”

St. Luke’s Boys Varsity Lacrosse opens up the season on the road at Hopkins on Thursday, April 2, before its home opener on Tuesday, April 7, against Wooster School. Towers hopes to get off to a good start: “I want the guys to play smart. I want them to play hard. I want them to play aggressively. Our goals are always subjective. It’s really to get connected and become more dangerous as a team than we are as individuals. The derivative of that will be our record, but our strength comes from working as a team."
