MS Debaters Tackle Online Debate and National Challenge

From Debate Coach Meredith MacLeod:
In April, St. Luke’s Middle School debaters Chris Briggs ‘24 and Ella Sato-Connell ‘24 participated in Connecticut’s first virtual debate tournament. The resolution was: This house believes single gender education is preferable to mixed gender education. Chris and Ella spent two full days debating the advantages and disadvantages of the resolution.

In May, Ainsley Birmingham, a seventh grade debater for St. Luke’s Middle School Debate Team, entered the National Speech and Debate Speech Challenge. She worked on her speeches daily and found evidence from many scholarly sources. Her debate speeches were on the topic: Resolved: On balance, charter schools are beneficial to the quality of education in the United States. We will find out how she placed later in June, when the entered speeches are judged.
