Upper School Votes in Student Council Executive Officers Elections
On Thursday, the Upper School held elections for Student Council Executive Officers for President, Vice President, Director of Communications and, new to this year’s ballot, Director of Culture & Community and Director of Social Justice.
Students interested in running for a position are nominated by a student or faculty member or can self-nominate. The 12 students who accepted nominations then created video speeches to address the Upper School, sharing their platform and vision for the year ahead — from expanding the number of outdoor games to increasing community service opportunities and COVID-friendly social activities to ensuring punctual communications.
"I was extremely happy with how the process played out. In the spring, we decided to delay elections until the fall, which allowed more students, particularly our new students, time to get to know the school, the community and, in some cases, the candidates. We restructured a few positions and added two new positions: Director of Culture & Community and Director of Social Justice, which will enhance our school community in countless ways. The process of viewing the speeches and voting in advisory was seamless, and we are excited about the group of young leaders picked to help guide our Upper School this academic year." — Matt Ward, Upper School Dean of Students
