Storm's Stevelman Walking To End Homelessness
St. Luke’s varsity volleyball player Sam Stevelman hopes to make this year’s Inspirica walkathon a huge success.
This is the eighth annual One Step Closer to Home walk to raise money for the homeless in Connecticut, and will be the first virtual event due to the impact of COVID-19.
Stevelman has volunteered with Inspirica for nearly eight years and is honored to oversee this fall’s walk: “I’m so pleased to lead this event for the St. Luke’s service board. Inspirica is a very special place, where I have learned so much about myself and the importance of giving back to the community.”
The two-week virtual event is open to everyone and takes place between Sept. 20-Oct. 4. To participate, you just have to download the Charity Footprints app, which will track your steps and help you achieve your goal.
Stevelman wants the St. Luke’s community to come together and hopes to boost participation among Storm athletes: “I’m eager for this year’s event to be bigger than ever, with record participation from the St. Luke’s community, including our athletes. If two or three people from each of our fall athletic teams participate, we will have a meaningful impact and show that we care about this program.”
All money raised will go to Inspirica and help fund additional afterschool programs, similar to the programs where Stevelman has spent many hours volunteering.
Stevelman’s goal is to make this year’s event better than ever: “During this difficult time, I think it’s important to make this year’s walkathon extra special and to support the people at Inspirica. We always raise a huge amount of money through the annual walkathon, but it would be great if we could raise a record amount this year.”
