Eye of the Storm Celebrates Tremendous Membership Growth

S.A.
Eye of the Storm (EOTS) is St. Luke’s Upper School student-led club that produces videos and podcasts about life at St. Luke’s. Since being founded in the fall of 2018, EOTS has seen tremendous growth, with 61 new students signing up this year, compared to 31 last year. Eli Fendelman, St. Luke’s Academic Technologist and one of the club’s faculty advisors, said, “I am thrilled that so many students have decided to join the Eye of the Storm club! Kudos to Elyse Kim ‘21 and Brian Douglas ‘21 for promoting the club tirelessly and creating a welcoming, collaborative atmosphere where students can engage in storytelling and journalism through different media. We are privileged to have access to so much quality hardware and software at St. Luke’s and can support several projects at a time in multiple media. I am excited for this year's videos, podcasts, music, graphics and more!”

Elyse Kim ‘21, Founder and Executive Producer of EOTS, and Brian Douglas ‘21, Producer and Head of Editing and Visual Effects, shared the following about their excitement regarding the club’s expansion and upcoming projects.

As Eye of the Storm enters its third year of production, we are thrilled to share that membership has grown prodigiously, from 31 new signups in 2019 to 61 in 2020.

We credit the club’s growth to the wealth of opportunities available to its members, including video journalism, podcasting, comedy, and more. The club focuses on all aspects of production, from editing in industry-standard software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, to honing interview technique and social media and marketing skills.

To accommodate this rapid growth, we have revised our club structure to offer leadership opportunities for interested members. These Project Leaders manage a production team and guide a video to completion before presenting to the full club leadership at a video review session.

New EOTS members got right to work this week filming 37 Questions with Ms. Fuller. This rapid-fire, one-shot interview is a fun, lighthearted feature that will help the St. Luke’s community better know our new theater arts teacher.

As EOTS forges ahead, we are confident that the enthusiasm from new members and the SLS community will ensure the club’s continued success. With graduation on the horizon, we are working to develop each member’s technical and leadership skills to ensure success into the future.

Those interested are encouraged to check out the Eye of the Storm website, which includes a subscription form where you can sign up to receive notifications about new content (and the release of Ms. Fuller’s feature!). We greatly appreciate the support of the SLS community and our incredible faculty advisors Mr. Fendelman, Mr. DeVissiere, and Ms. Mathrani.
