Fun in the Sun

Daniel Clarke
The six St. Luke’s fall sports teams made the most of a glorious day on Saturday, October 10, when our athletes had some fun in the sun against Greenwich Country Day School.

Cross country was first out of the blocks at 11am, racing against the Tigers in Greenwich. Danny and Brian Gall continued where they left off last fall and produced two great runs for the Storm. Jackson Hart ‘21 and Will Drapkin ‘24 also stood out in the boys’ race, while captains Cate Mathews ‘21 and Marguerite DeMarco ‘21 ran superb times in the girls’ race.

With a 12:30pm start, field hockey was the first contest at St. Luke’s, which took place on the Class of 2018 Field. Captain Lucy Ehlers ‘21 delivered an outstanding performance, scoring four goals in the game. Freshman goalie Ginny Caceres had a fantastic home debut for the Storm, with captain Kathleen Ehlers ‘21 commanding the defense in front of her. Captain Eloise LeClerc ‘21, Andrea DiTeodoro ‘22, Sloan Barker ‘22, and Macy Millones ‘23 controlled the midfield for the Storm

Next up was girls soccer on the Class of 2015 Field. Ali Gall ‘22 scored a tremendous hat-trick for the Storm in an excellent performance from the team. Captains Ryan Weil ‘21, Julia Lombardo ‘21, and Audrey Magnussen ‘21 also made significant contributions during the team’s first game of the season.

The varsity volleyball team played an intrasquad scrimmage as JV volleyball took the court against GCDS. The conditions were perfect for the first matches on the new outdoor courts, as Elyse Kim ‘21, Karey Balkind ‘22, and Brielle Renwick ‘23 put on a show in the varsity game. Zoe Troeger ‘22, Catherine Clark ‘22, and Katey Charnin ‘24 were outstanding as the JV team played a thrilling five sets against the Tigers.

Boys soccer made the trip to Greenwich with JV playing at 1pm and varsity taking the field at 3pm. Both were great matchups, with Thomas Arnold ‘22 capping a tremendous effort with three goals for BVS.

In the final game of the day, football kicked off its 7v7 season against GCDS on Watson Field. Brandon Bulerin ‘22 produced a terrific offensive performance with five receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown. Roderick Olson '23, in his first game for the Storm, led the team in pass break-ups alongside co-captain Jeremy Reid ‘21. Calvin Stuart ‘22, Skyler Wilkes ‘21, Jack Shurgin ‘23, and Zion Profit ‘22 each had one interception for the Storm.
