Storm Weekend Recap

Daniel Clarke
St. Luke’s athletics enjoyed another action-packed weekend with all six fall teams competing on Saturday, October 17.

Girls varsity soccer made the trip to Greenwich Academy for a 10am kick-off and, despite the early start, played a thrilling contest against the Gators. Juniors Layla Magnussen, Eli O’Meara, and Ali Gall were a constant offensive threat for the Storm, with Natalie Owsley ‘23 and Lily Magliacano ‘24 excelling on defense.

St. Luke’s field hockey also had a 10am start at GA. The Storm played hard against a very talented Gators team, with Sloan Barker ‘22 impressing in a new defensive role alongside Olivia Jones ‘22, Ella Miller ‘22, and Cessa Lewis ‘23. Andrea DiTeodoro ‘22 scored for St. Luke’s on a penalty stroke that was created by tremendous offensive pressure by Lili Messina ‘22 and Kiley Galvin ‘23.

Boys varsity soccer also made the trip to Greenwich for a match up against Brunswick School. The Storm showed its quality against a strong Bruins team and created a number of good opportunities, as George Foster ‘23 and Gianmarco Pirri ‘24 stood out in a fast-paced game.

The St. Luke’s cross country team traveled to Greenwich, too. The boys raced against the Bruins and the girls went head-to-head with the Gators. Will Drapkin ‘24, Jackson Hart ‘21, and Colt Alford ‘22 ran well for the boys team, while Marguerite DeMarco ‘21, Cate Mathews ‘21, and Josephine DeMarco ‘23 put in great times for the girls.

Varsity football was on the road at Hamden Hall for its second game of the 7on7 season. Skyler Wilkes ‘21 and Brandon Bulerin ‘22 led the way on offense for the Storm with one touchdown each. Zion Profit ‘22 excelled defensively as he grabbed three interceptions in only his second game for St. Luke’s football.

The St. Luke’s varsity volleyball team hosted Greenwich Academy in a thrilling contest. Both Sam Stevelman ‘23 and Sophie Dekker ‘23 had outstanding service games for the Storm, serving 88% and 89% respectively. Stevelman had four aces and six kills, while Dekker had one ace and three kills.
