St. Luke’s Debate Team Moves Up in National Rankings

This past weekend, the St. Luke's debate team attended the NSDA National Speech and Debate Association Springboard Online Debate Tournament. For the first time, St. Luke's debaters are competing in cross-examination, policy-style debates. The topic was Resolved: The United States federal government should enact substantial criminal justice reform in the United States in one or more of the following: forensic science, policing, sentencing.

Chris Briggs ‘24 and Nicole Perez ‘24 both won their first round of CX debate. Sally Picon ‘24 and Bailey Finn ‘24 received high speaker point awards in their last round of debate. Schools from 36 different states attended the tournament, and St. Luke’s debate team ranked in the top 10 of Open Policy teams participating. It was a full day of zooming and competing against students from New Mexico, California, and New York. Nicole Perez and Chris Briggs now rank as the 7th Best Policy Debater Team in the state of Connecticut.
