Veni, Vidi, Vici: Students Create Board Games in Latin Literature Class
Magistra Mahler went above and beyond when creating an interactive experience for their Honors and Advanced Latin Literature students by building board games to reflect readings of Julius Caesar. Magistra explains more about the students’ work in the following excerpt.
After reading Caesar's descriptions of the people he encountered in Europe during the Gallic Wars, students in Honors and Advanced Latin Literature created board games that incorporated various elements of these cultures. Some students adapted existing games, while others built their design concepts from the ground up. After plenty of playtesting, peer editing, and experimentation, we got to play versions of these fantastic games and even adapted them to work over Zoom! And if that wasn’t impressive enough, did I mention the students composed game boards, cards, and directions entirely in Latin? Don't worry – we can translate it for you if you'd like to play!
