Storm Launches Remote Fitness & Yoga

Daniel Clarke
With the State of Connecticut’s decision to pause all team sports through Jan. 19, St. Luke’s quickly moved to offer all its students a robust fitness and yoga program until restrictions are lifted.

The Storm started its programming this week and will offer online fitness during the weeks of Dec. 7 and 14, as well as Jan. 4 and 11. St. Luke’s remains hopeful that the traditional winter sports will be able to start on Jan. 20, if state guidelines allow.

Upper School students can choose to participate in up to eight sessions per week, with strength training offered on Mondays and Wednesdays and speed/agility/quickness sessions offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Middle School students will have the opportunity to participate in two sessions per week on Mondays and Wednesdays, with a focus on general fitness. The emphasis in the sessions will be on mechanics and form, including elements of balance, agility, speed, power, coordination, and reaction time.

All fitness sessions will be conducted by BlueStreak.

In addition, St. Luke’s will offer all students two yoga classes per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The yoga sessions will be run by Julie Santomero, who provides a phenomenal yoga experience for our students and staff.

Athletic Director Mike West is confident the programs on offer will be a huge benefit to the St. Luke’s student-athletes:  “While we can’t be in person to start the winter season, our student-athletes will create a solid foundation for in-person experiences to restart by committing fitness and yoga now. Whether a winter athlete or an off-season athlete, these remote offerings challenge us to find self-motivation and creatively engage in training that will push us to the next level.”
