Upper School Students Write for Rights
Students in Ms. Meatto’s Spanish III and Honors Spanish III had the opportunity to become activists for human rights as part of Amnesty International’s Write for Rights Campaign. St. Luke’s students who participated in the campaign were seeking answers to the questions, “What is the connection between identity and discrimination?” and “How can we use Spanish to combat discrimination?” Students selected a topic and a Spanish-speaking country to research, which included investigating its human rights violations. Working collaboratively, the students composed a letter that explained the situation and offered a solution to the problem.
This week, students took to the school community—clipboards in hand—to present their findings and collect signed letters to support their cause. More than 230 letters were collected as of Friday afternoon, and more are coming in. Once completed, these letters will be mailed to Amnesty International and used to help their human rights campaign.
