Storm Weekly Recap

Daniel Clarke
The St. Luke’s basketball and hockey teams made their long-awaited return to interscholastic competition last week with games against Greenwich Country Day School and Hamden Hall.

Boys and girls basketball were both in action against the Hornets on Thursday, Feb. 11, with the boys traveling to Hamden and the girls hosting inside Carey Gymnasium. Both games proved to be highly competitive affairs and the perfect return to the hardcourt.

The Storm then faced GCDS on Wednesday, Feb.17, with, once again, the boys on the road and the girls hosting. While still not allowed to attend the games in-person, many spectators enjoyed some great basketball via the livestream links.

Boys basketball captains Cole Bryant ‘21 and Lewis Cropper ‘21 made significant contributions for the Storm as did returning sophomore Ethan Crawford. New addition Aren Cummings ‘22 enjoyed a great start to his St. Luke’s basketball career, too.

Girls varsity captain Caroline Lau ‘22 continued to demonstrate her impressive form, with new additions Mackenzie Nelson ‘23 and Ava Sollenne ‘23 adding offensive power. Keira Williams ‘22 also made a significant impact defensively for the current FAA Champions.

Both teams return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 20, with home games. Girls basketball tips off at 11am against Cheshire Academy, and the boys’ team faces King School at 2pm.

The St. Luke’s puck squad faced off against the Tigers with a doubleheader on Thursday, Feb. 11 and Wednesday, Feb. 17. The first contest was held at Chelsea Piers and the other on the outdoor rink at Greenwich Skating Club. GCDS, who are a new team on the Storm’s schedule, provided a great matchup in two close games.

George Foster ‘23 and Henry Robb ‘22 were superb again for the Storm, and captain Hayden Critchell ‘21 made his return after missing much of last season due to an injury. Eighth grader Brennan Fila ‘25 put in two excellent displays in his first games for St. Luke’s despite competing against players four years older than him.

The Storm returns to action with another road trip on Saturday, Feb. 20, when they take on Kingswood Oxford in South Windsor.
