NY Designer Prepares St. Luke’s Students for a Career in Fashion

S.A.
St. Luke’s Women in Humanities Club Advisor and Upper School History Teacher, Abby Abbott, shares the following about the club’s recent guest speaker, fashion designer Karolina Zmarlak.

The Women in Humanities Club was delighted to host fashion designer Karolina Zmarlak of KZ_K Studio this week for a short talk and Q&A about her life and career. Zmarlak grew up in Poland in the 1980s, emigrated to Chicago, and later attended New York’s famed Fashion Institute of Technology. Sharing helpful insights on how to best prepare for a career in fashion, Zmarlak recommended specific reading materials, top ranked design colleges, internship advice, and her thoughts on creating a unique and memorable personal style. The club is looking forward to visiting Zmarlak’s studio when safe to do so.

The Women in Humanities Club is a 100% student-run club established in 2017 to uplift and celebrate women in literature, history, and the arts. After the club’s leadership graduated in 2020, Abby Thomas ‘23 and Samantha Bauer ‘23 reimagined a Covid-safe iteration and have organized book chats (spring read: Betty Smith’s A Tree Grows in Brooklyn), discussions on timely topics, and an exciting array of guest speakers — next up is Andrea Berg, set decorator and logo designer for the Netflix series Cobra Kai.
