Athletic and IT Departments Team Up to Livestream Squash

Daniel Clarke
The St. Luke’s Athletic Department teamed up with the school’s IT Department this winter to come up with a unique solution to livestream squash matches via Zoom.

With restrictions on spectators in place due to the pandemic, Athletic Director Mike West wanted to find a way to allow people to watch St. Luke’s squash remotely. This provided a number of challenges as West wanted all four courts to be visible to everyone who wanted to watch.

West collaborated with St. Luke’s Audio-Visual Specialist Bryan DeVissiere to make that happen. With the help of four GoPro cameras, they were able to creatively solve the problem and give parents, faculty and staff, students, and alum the opportunity to watch all eight home matches. Viewers who tuned in were given an exceptional vantage point to watch the matches and cheer on the athletes as if they were on the new Class of 2020 Cardio and Viewing Mezzanine.

West said: “There’s no question that streaming our squash courts provided a unique challenge. Partnering with our talented technology team made it possible for every squash match to be viewed this season. It was truly phenomenal to see how many people took advantage of the opportunity to watch the matches. Huge thanks to Bryan and his team for identifying the best way forward and to the athletic staff and coaches for partnering to make it happen.”
