Spring Sports In Full Swing

Daniel Clarke
St. Luke's student athletes enjoyed another full week of preseason training this week. Teams will continue their preparation after spring break as we get ready for the first contests of the season on Saturday, April 10.

The Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) announced its commitment to play a complete regular season across all spring sports. Unlike the fall and winter games, these will be official contests, with the hope of conferring league honors and naming a regular season champion. There will be no post-season play across the FAA and New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC), as schools across the league continue to be in different learning modes and have varying limitations on how frequently they can play contests.

Each opponent on the spring schedule will have their own set of spectator rules and guidelines. St. Luke’s will allow two spectators per student-athlete to the Hilltop for Saturday games. Spectators must wear masks at all times and remain physically distanced from other spectators who are not part of their household. Unfortunately, no spectators will be allowed for midweek contests, but the St. Luke’s athletic department will work diligently to livestream as many of the events as possible.

Girls tennis captain Audrey Magnusen is anticipating a great season for the Storm: “I am really excited to start the tennis season this year. It’s great to think about getting outside in the warmer weather and bonding with the team. We have a very strong squad so it will be fun to watch and cheer each other on.”

Boys lacrosse captain Justin Pearl ‘21 is also eager to get going after spring break: “I am super excited to be back on the field and really looking forward to my final season with the team. We have a great group of guys who are working hard to get better every day, so we should be in good shape and ready to go in April.”

Girls lacrosse captain Annalise Correia ‘22 is also delighted to be playing again: “Given our missed 2020 season, the anticipation to get back on the field and compete is motivating everyone. The intensity and attitude has been great, and I am really impressed with the talent of our younger players. We can’t wait to get back at it and continue to build the chemistry between our new players and the returners.”

Boys lacrosse (10am at home), girls lacrosse (11am away), baseball (noon at home), boys tennis (1pm away), girls tennis (1pm at home), and softball (2pm at home) all face Greenwich Country Day School on the first weekend of play in what should be a terrific first round of games.

St. Luke’s Golf has its first match of the year on Monday, April 12 on the road vs King School.
