St. Luke’s Hosts Advanced Curriculum Conversation

S.A.
On Wednesday, April 7, Sonia Bell, Liz Perry, and Jim Yavenditti hosted a conversation with other educational leaders about the process of moving Beyond APs at St. Luke’s. They shared their experience and wisdom on a number of topics, including advanced curriculum, assessment, and how to communicate a change to the wider community.

The workshop was organized by Sarah Hanawald at One Schoolhouse, the online independent school of which St. Luke’s is a member. Roughly 25 academic leaders from independent schools around the country participated. Key questions Bell, Perry, and Yavenditti discussed included:

  • What questions should you ask as you evaluate your school’s AP program?
  • Who should be involved in your school’s decision making?
  • What advanced curriculum, other than APs, might serve your school’s mission more fully?
Liz Perry notes, “This is a conversation that many schools want to have, but they aren’t sure where to begin. Three years ago, at the beginning of our Beyond AP process at St. Luke’s, we learned so much from schools that had already made this move, and we were happy to pay it forward through the One Schoolhouse network.”
