The St. Luke’s Storm kicked off another exciting week of athletics, sweeping Rye Country Day School in four varsity contests on Saturday, May 8.

St. Luke’s faced the Wildcats in girls tennis, softball, and lacrosse, as well as baseball, with all games starting at 3pm.

GVT improved to 6-1 on the season with a hard-fought 4-3 win against a talented Rye team. Audrey Magnusen ‘21 was narrowly defeated in the number one singles match, but Layla Magnusen ‘22, Liza Sieghart ‘24, and CC Buono ‘23 all won their single matches. Caroline Pellegrino ‘21 and Macy Millones ‘23 sealed the Storm’s victory, winning the number one singles match. 

Varsity softball secured a 10-0 win at RCDS in five innings. Alex Bacher ‘24 had another impressive display on the mound, pitching all seven innings and giving up zero runs. Lily Messina ‘22 had three hits during four at bats, scoring two runs and driving in three. The Storm traveled to Greens Farms Academy on Wednesday, May 12, for another battle against the Dragons. Bacher pitched another stellar game in a 9-3 victory to improve the team’s overall record to 9-2.

Baseball, also at the home of the Wildcats, squeaked by with a 2-1 victory on the back of dominant pitching displays by Ethan Righter ‘23 and Jack Ellis ‘21. Lewis Cropper and Ryan Higgins scored the Storm runs on an inside-the-park home run from Higgins, as the team moved to 9-1 on the season. The Storm quickly made that 10-1 on Monday, May 10, with a thrilling win at home against Brunswick School. Trailing 1-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, with two outs and runners on first and second, Cropper hit a walk-off double down the third baseline to secure a valuable FAA victory. Cropper had also pitched six commanding innings, giving up just one earned run. The team made it three-for-three for the week with a comfortable 13-5 win on the road at Harvey School on Wednesday, May 12.

Girls varsity lacrosse capped off a wonderful Saturday for St. Luke’s Athletics by celebrating its seniors before the thrilling 11-10 win over RCDS. This was the team’s fourth consecutive victory, with captain Ryan Weil ‘21, Sarah Beran ‘23, and Annalise Correia ‘22 all impressing on offense. Alexa Crawford ‘23 made a number of key saves in goal to secure a great win for SLS.

The St. Luke’s Golf Team was also in action at the New England Preparatory Tournament at The Club at River Oaks in Sherman, Connecticut. The Storm finished third behind Brunswick School and Avon Old Farms School on an exceptionally challenging course. Eoin Mueller ‘23 low scored for St. Luke’s with a +8 round of 79, finishing tied for fifth overall. SLS Golf traveled to Yale Golf Course on Wednesday, May 12, to take on Hopkins School. Ben Loomis ‘22 and Eoin Mueller ‘23 low scored on the day, with scores of 37 in a solid win for the Storm.
