Winners of the Pencil Challenge Announced

S.A.
In April, St. Luke’s designLab teamed up with the Prospector Theater in Ridgefield to host the Pencil Challenge. Students were asked to imagine and build a prototype of a chain-reaction machine of any kind, with only one rule: they must include a pencil.

With so many great entries, the Prospector Theater couldn’t choose just one, and two St. Luke’s students were awarded the grand prize.

Congratulations, Oliver Samardzija ‘26 and Margaret Fleuette ‘25! Mike Santini, Prospector Theater’s Director of Research and Development, said, “Your work on the Pencil Challenge was phenomenal! We were dazzled by your chain-reaction machines and grasp of the Prospector's mission.”

Each winner will receive a private theater rental, complete with popcorn and refreshments.

Michael Mitchell, St. Luke’s designLab Director, shared, “It's always great to see students engage in creative problem solving, especially when it involves doing good for others. I'm glad we were able to partner again with the Prospector Theater."
