Varsity Field Hockey Slay Dragons For First Time Since 2008
The St. Luke’s varsity field hockey team recorded its first win against Greens Farms Academy since the fall of 2008 on Wednesday, Sept. 22, to improve to 3-0 on the season.
The Storm won a thrilling 3-2 contest against the Dragons, with goals from Annabel Silbersher ‘25, Grace O'Connor ‘24, and Andrea DiTeodoro ‘22.
GFA opened the scoring to take a 1-0 lead, but the Storm responded just before halftime when Silbersher found the net after diverting a shot from Sloan Barker ‘22.
St. Luke’s took the lead for good with six minutes remaining in the third quarter when O’Connor fired home, after some great work by Lili Messina ‘22 and MJ Owens ‘24.
With just over seven minutes to play, DiTeodoro gave the team some breathing room with an outstanding goal. The senior captain received a great pass from Kiley Galvin ‘23 before unleashing an unstoppable reverse shot into the top of the goal.
St. Luke’s weathered a late onslaught from the Dragons and, despite conceding a goal as the clock ticked down, held on to a memorable win.
Head Coach Emily Walsh was extremely proud of her team: “This was truly a full team and community effort. Each player contributed significantly and the fans gave us the support we needed to hold on until the last second.”
Next Up: St. Luke’s varsity field hockey hosts Holy Child on Saturday, Sept. 25, in another FAA contest before welcoming Kingswood Oxford to the Hilltop on Monday, Sept. 27.
