Pat Raffaele '88 Receives the Edward B. Blakely Distinguished Faculty Award

S.A.
The presentation of the Edward B. Blakely Distinguished Faculty Award helped kick off the 20th Annual State of the School on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021. The award,  named after the School’s founder, is given to a teacher who exemplifies Mr. Blakely’s founding values of excellence and character. This year’s award recipient was Pat Raffaele, a St. Luke’s faculty member and coach, and class of ‘88 graduate.

During the program, Mark Davis said, ”This year’s award recipient, Pat Raffaele, was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012, served on the Alumni Board for 10 years, and won the Scovner Teaching Award in 2018 for being an innovative teacher and a dedicated coach who cares deeply about his students' health and well-being.”

Davis went on to share, “As faculty members, we also know Pat as the unsung hero of our activities program. Did you know he coached 77 straight seasons before ‘taking off’ his first season to coach kids in the weight room? That’s more than 25 straight school years of coaching all three interscholastic seasons. Raff, as many call him, is genuine, kind, compassionate, and patient. In fact, he has the patience of a saint. He helps all of us stay level-headed.” Turning to Raffaele, Davis added: “Your constant care for your students and your colleagues puts you at the center of our mission and culture. I can’t imagine St. Luke’s without you or a more worthy recipient of this award.”
