Winter Choir Concert Soothes the Soul
On Thursday, Feb. 3, St. Luke’s 7-12 grade choirs held their Winter Concert at the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan. Three choirs performed: Treble Choir, Tenor-Bass Choir, and Chorale.
From medieval to pop, the concert featured a wide-ranging selection of genres. The concert was especially meaningful as it was St. Luke’s first live performance since November 2019.
The concert planning began last fall when the First Presbyterian Church reached out to St. Luke’s to invite us to use their space. The acoustics are outstanding, and it was wonderful to branch out in our community.
Head of Middle School Amber Berry was one of the audience members at the concert and shared her experience:
The performances were polished, beautiful, and so very well done, from start to finish. Thank you to First Presbyterian Church for hosting our event, and bravo to our Choir Director and Music Department Chair, Dale D. Griffa! The joy, excitement, and emotion-filled hearts (and eyes) throughout the evening were a common theme, and coming together as a community to celebrate through song was a healing balm that we so needed.
It was a great reminder that sometimes we need to say, "Let it Go!" There was an audible hush as we closed our eyes and hung on to the words of "A Safe Place to Land." The closing song provided a breathtaking visual when our choir students in grades 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 stood together to sing "Fight Song." The explosion of applause was a natural response to the final line, "Know I've still got a lot of fight left in me." (I wouldn't mind if that became our second semester school anthem.)
