Hockey Secures Playoff Place With Three Wins in a Week

Daniel Clarke
The St. Luke’s varsity hockey team had a tremendous week, winning all three of its contests and securing a playoff spot in the Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) tournament.

The Storm played Hamden Hall on Monday, Feb. 7, at Sono Ice House, where they celebrated the team’s five seniors with a decisive victory over the Hornets. Goals from Colt Alford ‘22, Teddy Ansaldi ‘25, Enzo Fredericks ‘25, Matt Riccardi ‘23, Henry Robb ‘22, Eoin Mueller ‘23, Will Moskowitz ‘25, and Will Winalski ‘22 secured an 8-3 win.

The SLS Puck Squad then hosted The Harvey School on Wednesday, Feb. 9, when another fine display earned the Storm a 4-0 win. Senior captain Jared Kramer, who moved to forward for the three games, notched two goals on the day, with Riccardi and Mueller grabbing the other two. Aidan Flannigan ‘24 recorded the shutout in goal for the Storm.

St. Luke’s rounded off a busy and hugely successful week with a road victory against Greenwich Country Day School. The Storm found themselves a goal down early in the game at Chelsea Piers Connecticut, but a fantastic second period, with SLS scoring five unanswered goals, gave the team a 5-1 victory over the Tigers. George Foster ‘23 scored two goals, before Jack Dolan ‘22, Fredericks and Mueller completed the scoring.

Foster was thrilled to win all three FAA games and looks forward to the playoffs: “Watching our team, especially at the past few games, has been incredible. The success we have enjoyed is all due to the energy of the players and coaches, as well as the close relationships among everyone. The camaraderie is something special. With the momentum we have generated heading into the playoffs, I am super excited to see what our team can do. Hopefully we can continue to keep the ‘train chugging’ all the way to the finals.”

St. Luke’s Hockey has two more FAA games next week that will determine what seed the team will earn for the tournament. SLS Puck faces King School on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Stamford Twin Rinks, and Kingswood Oxford School at home on Friday, Feb. 18.

The FAA tournament begins on Tuesday, Feb. 22, with the semifinal matches scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 24, and the final set for Saturday, Feb. 24.
