Girls Basketball Records Perfect Regular Season

The St. Luke’s Girls Varsity Basketball team completed a perfect 21-0 regular season with a win over The Taft School on Saturday, Feb. 19.

The Storm beat the Rhinos 67-35 to wrap up the remarkable accomplishment of going the entire regular season without a loss.

In this game, Mackenzie Nelson ‘23 was the top scorer for St. Luke’s with 18 points, Caroline Lau ‘22 finished with 17 points, and Ava Sollenne ‘23 added 11 points.

St. Luke’s has been in tremendous form all season with many dangerous players and an outstanding defense. The team hopes to continue its run throughout the playoffs. It will compete for the FAA Tournament championship on Saturday, Feb. 26, before starting its New England Preparatory School Council (NEPSAC) bid next week.

The Storm advanced to the FAA final with wins against Hopkins School in the quarterfinals and Sacred Heart in the semifinals. St. Luke’s will host Hamden Hall on Saturday for the opportunity to win its sixth straight tournament title. 

The seedings for the NEPSAC tournament release on Sunday, Feb. 27, with the quarterfinals contests scheduled for Wednesday, March 2, the semifinals on Saturday, March 5, and the final scheduled for Sunday, March 6.

Head Coach Matt Ward is extremely proud of his players and hopes they can continue to the NEPSAC championship: “This group has just been so fun to be around. They compete hard every day. They seem to really enjoy being around each other, supporting each other, and sharing common goals. It’s been a fun season so far, and I’m looking forward to the last ten days.”
