Baseball Storms Back With Three Straight Wins

Daniel Clarke
The St. Luke’s baseball team recorded three straight wins in the Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) league, improving its record to 5-2 overall in league play.

After two tough losses against Greenwich Country Day School and Greens Farms Academy, the Storm responded by beating Brunswick School on Friday, April 22, Masters School (New York) on Tuesday, April 26, and Rye Country Day School on Thursday, April 28.

The perfect week for St. Luke’s began with a 5-2 road win against the Bruins. Ethan Righter ‘23 got the win in a powerful pitching performance. Co-captains Teddy Cashman ‘22 and Justin Higgins ‘23 led the way offensively, with two hits and an RBI each. John Staub ‘23 also had two hits and an RBI, and Tommy Lewis ‘22 and JB Barr ‘22 added an RBI each.

The Storm picked up another win at the home of the Panthers, where Staub pitched five strong innings before being relieved by Cashman for an 11-4 final score. Higgins drove in three RBIs, with Cashman, Righter, Barr, Brennan Fila ‘25, and Matteo Lombardo ‘25 also picking up an RBI each.

St. Luke’s capped off a wonderful seven days with another impressive display against the Wildcats on the Hilltop. Righter was back on the mound and pitched six excellent innings, giving up zero earned runs in a 10-2 victory. St. Luke’s scored four runs in the bottom of the third before a huge sixth inning, when SLS added five runs and put the game safely in the win column. Cashman had another wonderful offensive performance, driving in four runs. Righter added two of his own.

Cashman, who leads the team with four home runs and 17 RBIs, was thrilled with how his team performed: “The Brunswick win really got us going. To go to their field and beat a powerhouse like them made our team realize that nobody can beat us when we play our best baseball. After that, we performed exceptionally well against the following two opponents.”

St. Luke’s baseball is back in action on Monday, May 2, at home against The Frederick Gunn School before a double-header against Hopkins on Saturday, May 7. Cashman wants his team to continue its winning streak: “We need to go into every game like it’s our last and can’t take any opponent lightly. If we do that, we’ll have a great shot at winning the FAA championship again.”
