Girls Golf Set For First FAA Tournament

Daniel Clarke
The St. Luke’s girls varsity golf team is preparing to play in its first Fairchester Athletic Association tournament on Monday, May 16, at Century Country Club, in Purchase, New York.

The Storm has enjoyed its inaugural season, which it will cap off by competing in this showcase event against Greenwich Academy, Sacred Heart Greenwich, Greens Farms Academy, King School, Holy Child School, and Rye Country Day School.

Five players from each school will compete in the nine-hole event to determine the 2022 FAA champion. Senior captain Sloan Barker looks forward to the event: “I’m really excited to have the opportunity to play golf against skilled opponents and on a beautiful course.”

Barker, who plays in the Storm’s number two position, has been thrilled with her team: “The most enjoyable part of the season has been getting to know the girls on the team. We all get along and have ended up acting like sisters. I’m going to miss them all so much. From the very start of the season, everyone has put in effort every day and improved their skills. I’m very proud of the entire team. Five of the seven of us had never played in an official match, but everyone was a great sport and managed the pressure well.”

After the FAA tournament, the SLS girls golf team has one final match against Rye Country Day School on Tuesday, May 17, at The Apawamis Club, to end a fantastic first season.
