Boys Golf Finishes Third At Bulls Bridge

Daniel Clarke
The St. Luke’s boys golf team finished third at the Bulls Bridge Invitational Golf Tournament on Wednesday, May 11, behind Avon Old Farms and Brunswick School.

The Storm produced some fine golf on a difficult course to continue their impressive season, which has seen the team lose just one match.

Watson Meyer ‘24 scored the lowest round of the day with a fabulous 73. Meyer was closely followed by Ben Loomis ‘22 and Chad Ruggiero ‘24, who both shot 74’s. Eoin Mueller ‘23 continued his fine season, shooting 75, with Matty Shulman ‘25 and Peter Cioffi ‘23 contributing to the third-place finish with 85 and 87, respectively.

Meyer was pleased with his round and the team’s performance: “The round didn't start off great, but I stayed patient and followed the game plan of trying to keep the ball in play and not forcing my hand unnecessarily to avoid putting big numbers on the scorecard. It paid off later, and I was able to have a really strong finish. We were happy with the scores we produced. Finishing third out of fifteen was a decent result, but we enter every match to win.”

That will be the SLS’s goal next week at the FAA Tournament on Monday, May 23, at Maple Moor Golf Course, in White Plains, New York. The tournament wasn’t held in 2020 or 2021, but Meyers is confident his teammates can produce the necessary golf to defend the title, which St. Luke’s has won the last four years the tournament has been played: “Our goal going into the tournament is to win it outright. At Bulls Bridge, we came up just short of Brunswick, while beating Hamden Hall and GFA, so we feel good about our chances.”
