Softball's Perfect Season Ended By Cushing

Daniel Clarke
The St. Luke’s softball team’s quest to complete a perfect season ended when they were defeated by Cushing Academy in the Western New England Preparatory School Athletic Association (WNEPSAA) championship game on Sunday, May 22.

The Storm entered the WNEPSAA final with an overall record of 16-0 but lost a nail-biting contest, 0-1, against the Penguins on the Class of 2018 Field.

The game was dominated by two outstanding pitching efforts. Alexandra Bacher ‘24 pitched all seven innings for St. Luke’s, giving up just four hits and striking out 12. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, as the Storm’s offense struggled against a dominant Penguin’s pitcher.

The game-winning run was scored in the top of the third. Despite the best efforts of the St. Luke’s hitters, the Storm couldn't find a run to tie the game.

It was a thrilling game played in front of a huge crowd. Regardless of the loss, the Storm should be extremely proud. The team had a tremendous season, winning the Fairchester Athletic Association regular-season title and the tournament title.
