Springtime Band and Choir Concerts

S.A.
The Seldin Performing Arts Center was filled with the sweet sounds of music during St. Luke’s year-end concerts for choir and band.

On Tuesday, May 24, the Middle and Upper School Choir Concert took place, with performances that included Cambiata (5th & 6th grade), Tenor-Bass (7th & 8th grade), Treble (7th & 8th grade), and Chorale (9th-12th grade). Throughout the year, these groups worked tirelessly with Music Department Chair Dale Griffa to perfect their sound. On the night of the concert, Music Teacher Peter Valera conducted each group while audience members tapped their feet and sang along to catchy tunes, such as “Sweet Caroline” and “Here Comes the Sun.”

Just two days later, on Thursday, May 26, the Seldin Performing Arts Center was bustling once again with the excitement of another musical performance, the Spring Band Concert, the first all-school band concert since 2019. For many Middle Schoolers, it was their first performance ever—despite years of playing their instruments. Led by Music Teachers Peter Valera and Maggie Lauer, this year’s concert was a treat for the audience to watch.

As Head of Upper School Liz Perry commented, “It's a joy to watch the progression of our students from the fifth-grade performance right up through the senior song, and tonight really showcased what our program is all about. It was a packed house, and the energy in the audience was electric. Maggie and Peter, thank you for your leadership and the joy you bring to all of us through music.”
