Girls Soccer & Volleyball Advance to NEPSAC Semifinals
The St. Luke’s girls varsity soccer and varsity volleyball teams advanced to the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) tournament semifinals, after winning their quarterfinal matchups on Wednesday, Nov. 17.
In a repeat of the 2019 NEPSAC final, GVS hosted Canterbury School on the Class of 2015 Field, where they raced into a 4-0 lead. Natalie Owsley ’23 opened the Storm’s scoring with a wonderful free kick from 35 yards out, before Lena Olbrys ’25 completed a hat trick in the first half, giving St. Luke’s a comfortable advantage at the break.
A stunning strike in the 53rd minute gave Olbrys her fourth and St. Luke’s fifth goal, with the Storm controlling the game for long periods.
The win secured St. Luke’s place in Saturday’s semifinal match against Brewster Academy, the number one seed. The game is scheduled to kick off at 2pm, at St. Mark’s School, with the winner advancing to Sunday’s final at Rivers School.
St. Luke’s volleyball hosted number six seed Rivers School inside Carey Gymnasium. A combination of strong serves and forward play helped the Storm win the two first sets (21-10 and 25-21).
Rivers came roaring back to clinch the next two sets (16-25 and 21-25), but St. Luke’s regrouped and won the fifth and decisive set (15-5) for a 3-2 victory.
Brielle Renwick ’23 put in an outstanding performance, contributing 14 kills. Catalina Hendricks ’23 provided 21 assists, and Whitney Grunow ’25 had a strong service game, with four aces for the Storm.
St. Luke’s volleyball faces Kingswood Oxford School in Saturday’s semifinal at KO. The winner advances to Sunday’s Class B Championship game.
