Jingjing Lai, Upper School Mandarin Teacher
Presented by the American Academy of International Culture and Education (AAICE), the National Chinese EXPO of Student Works (NCESW) is a competition that recognizes outstanding academic work by K-12 and college-level Chinese language learners.

This year, the review committee received over 4,000 submissions from students in 47 states in the United States and Canada, with only 300 works selected for the K-12 category.

We are pleased to announce that work by the following SLS students was selected to be exhibited on the NCESW website for public viewing in the first round:

  • Alan Calver '24: The birthday story of Dalong, Mandarin III
  • Cassidy Cui '25: Texting story, Mandarin II
  • Kaan Savasoglu '23: Creative writing story, Honors Mandarin IV
  • Group Work: Mandarin Name Seal Project, Mandarin I (Jamie Supe '24, Carys Gardner '24, Joe Derr '24, Tatum Lemkau '25, Elissa Tobin '26, Katey Charnin '24, and Ava Gunthel '25)
In addition, Alan Calver and the students who participated in the Mandarin Name Seal Project were selected for NCESW’s final exhibition. Their work will be recognized in a synchronous online exhibition and celebration next month.
