Girls Basketball Wins Officials Sportsmanship Award

Daniel Clarke
Congratulations to the St. Luke’s Girls Varsity Basketball Team for receiving the Harold Swaffield Sportsmanship Award for the 2022-23 season.

GVBB enjoyed another remarkable season, winning its first ever New England Championship and its seventh straight double FAA league and tournament championships. The Storm finished with an overall record of 26-2.

The Harold Swaffield Sportsmanship Award is presented annually to the basketball program that demonstrates the most consistent level of good sportsmanship, which includes not just the players but also the coaches and fans. Fairfield County Board of Approved Basketball Officials votes each year for the winner.

Head Coach Matt Ward was honored to receive the award again this year: “It’s a compliment to our kids and, really, to our whole community. To know that the officials feel welcome and happy to come to St. Luke’s is extremely gratifying. I’m happy that our kids are being recognized for playing the game the right way.”
