St. Luke’s eighth grade science students have been studying Isaac Newton and his laws of motion. As part of their exploration of force and motion, students created an interactive exhibit for St. Luke’s fifth graders to learn about Newton’s law, which will help them when they work on their upcoming “Cut the Rope” project —  a physics-based video game puzzle.

Eighth graders met with the fifth graders to identify the fifth grade students’ passions and interests. Together, the eighth grade and fifth grade students compiled a list of topics to feature in the exhibit. Using the list as their guide, the eighth graders designed posters that connected the laws of motion to real-life situations, such as fishing, playing football, and kayaking. Each poster includes a scannable QR code that links to an audio component for each law.

While the project was designed as an interactive fifth-grade learning environment, all are welcome to stop by the Class of 2019 Art Gallery and check out the display. Don’t forget to bring your phone to listen to the audio component.
