Boys Golf Beat 'Wick in Wicked Week

Daniel Clarke
The St. Luke’s Boys Varsity Golf team finished a busy week with a 3-1 record to move to 5-1 overall for the season.

The Storm started with a disappointing 2-7 loss against King School on Monday, April 17, at The Country Club of New Canaan (CCNC) but came roaring back to win its other three matches against Brunswick School, Greenwich Country Day School, and Greens Farms Academy.

The highlight of the week was a tremendous 6.5-2.5 victory over an extremely talented Brunswick team on Tuesday, April 18, at CCNC. The Bruins boasted a roster with four college-bound golfers plus a freshman who plays as the team’s #1. Despite the accomplished line-up, St. Luke’s used its home course advantage to record an impressive win. Eli Brody ’24 shot the lowest score of the day for the Storm with a 35, followed by Eoin Mueller ’23 (36), Chad Ruggiero ’24 (36), Peter Cioffi ’23 (37), Watson Meyer ’24 (39) and Connor Mannix ’24 (44).

The team used the bounce-back win to propel itself into the next two matches against GCDS on Wednesday, April 19 and GFA on Thursday, April 20, both at CCNC. The Storm pounced on the Tigers 8-1, with Chad earning the medal with a 36, Eoin shooting 38, Peter and Watson chipping in with 42s, and Liam Monahan ’25 scoring 45.

The Storm downed the Dragons 7.5-1.5, with Eoin producing the lowest score of the day with 36, Eli and Watson shot 38, Chad scored 40, Peter chipped in with a 42, and Connor carded a 46.

St. Luke’s Boys golf is back in action on Thursday, April 27, with another home match. The Storm hosts Hamden Hall at 3:30pm and will honor its seniors, Eoin Mueller, Peter Cioffi, and Grant Douglas, before the contest.
