GVT Enjoys Strong Start to Season

Daniel Clarke
The St. Luke’s girls varsity tennis team has enjoyed a terrific start to its season, dropping just one of its opening nine matches.

The Storm tied Wilton High School 4-4 in its first match of the spring before a tremendous 5-2 victory over FAA rivals Greens Farms Academy. Despite the Dragons winning at number one and two singles, the Storm won the remaining five matches on court to clinch an important win. Maddy Alecia ’26 pulled off a stunning 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 victory in the number three match before Macy Millones ’23 and Kiley Galvin ’23 won an epic doubles contest 6-0, 5-7, 10-8 in the number one doubles match.

GVT followed that up with a 4-0 win over The Canterbury School, a 6-1 victory against School of the Holy Child, and a 7-0 win against Greenwich Country Day School before losing its only match so far this season against Greenwich Academy.

The Storm bounced straight back from the defeat to record a 7-0 win on the road at Millbrook School and a 4-2 win at Rye Country Day School. Kelly Neuner ’24, CC Buono ’23, Maddy, and Annabel Silbersher ’25 all won their singles contests to squeak past the Wildcats before rain caused a shortened match.

St. Luke’s moved to 7-1-1 overall on Tuesday, May 2 with a remarkable win at Sacred Heart Greenwich. Kelly, CC, Maddy, and Annabel won their singles matches. Macy and Kiley, as well as Izzy Levi ’24, and Ainsley Birmingham ’25 also recorded victories in a 6-1 win against the Tigers.

Head Coach Brinley Ehlers is extremely pleased with how her team has been competing. “Our team is very deep,” she said. “Our singles are all strong and we have some really great doubles teams. It is definitely going to be a year where everyone will have something to contribute. The team  is a really tight knit group too. They all get along really well and support and cheer each other on which is great to see.”
