Girls Varsity Tennis Wins NEPSAC Championship

The St. Luke’s girls varsity tennis team capped off a tremendous season by winning the New England Class C Championship on Sunday, May 21.

The Storm beat local rivals Greens Farms Academy 4-3 in a tense matchup with Annabel Silbersher ’25 securing the title in the final singles match.

GFA won  the first two matches before St. Luke’s came storming back. Maddy Alecia ’26 won the third singles match 6-4, 6-0 before the Storm took two of the three doubles matches. Izzy Levi ’24 and Ainsley Birmingham ’25 defeated their opponents 6-1, 6-1 and Emma Ryan ’26 Sabrina Cannaliato ’27 slayed the Dragons 6-2, 6-2.

These wins set up a nail biting final singles match between Annabel and her GFA counterpart. St. Luke’s had beaten the Dragons earlier in the season, but both teams knew it was going to be a tight affair. The Storm, and Annabel, kept their cool under the intense pressure to clinch the championship. Annabel won the first-set tiebreak 7-2 before dominating the second set 6-0 to give St. Luke’s the NEPSAC title.

Head Coach Brinley Ehlers was ecstatic to see her team’s hard work pay off. “This team worked hard all season and had a lot of success,”she said. “It was so sweet to beat GFA in the NEPSAC finals since they beat us last year. This was a total team effort and I am so proud of every one of them.”

“High School Tennis is a team sport but individual commitment to a group effort,” added Head Coach Tish Tregellas. “This is what makes teamwork - and this team demonstrated this commitment in every way all season.  They are a talented and hard-working group of girls that won games and matches but teamwork wins championships.  I am so proud of this team and cannot wait for next season.”
