St. Luke’s 94th Commencement

On Friday, May 26, St. Luke’s School celebrated the 83 members of the Class of 2023 during the School’s 94th Commencement Ceremony. Head of School Dr. Mary Halpin Carter told graduates, “When you think of St. Luke’s, know this is how we will remember you: Woven from a strong moral fiber. Buttoned up yet utterly playful. Able to appreciate life’s little gems and each other's achievements. Kind and continuously curious. The very best of St. Luke’s.”

St. Luke’s Board Chair Jennifer L. Foster spoke to graduates, including her son George, saying “From the moment you entered the front doors of St. Luke’s and passed under the etching of our school motto, ‘Enter to Learn. Go Forth to Serve,’ you have been busy preparing for this moment to go forth to serve, to use your talents and knowledge to make this world better…For the world sorely needs your wisdom, your knowledge, and your problem-solving skills. I, for one, cannot wait to behold the change you will inspire.”

Ava Sollene gave the farewell address as the Class of 2023’s valedictorian. “Whether you’re a so-called ‘lifer’ at St. Luke’s or a classmate who joined this amazing community only two years ago, the impact St. Luke’s makes on its students is immeasurable,” she said. “Today sparks a new beginning for us all, a new series of firsts, but it also heralds the end of an era. This feeling of closure comes as a beautiful sorrow, a sentiment that stems from the departure of strong foundations and relationships we have built here. How special this place must be for the bittersweet heartache to be felt so profoundly when it is time to move on.”

Head of School Mary Halpin Carter left graduates with a reminder: “Our school’s mission—a deep love of learning, a strong moral compass, the commitment to serve, and the confidence to lead—it calls us to encourage in you something more far-reaching than individual success…You have already accumulated broad knowledge, kindness, and depth of character. And the proven ability to learn, collaborate, adapt, and leverage new opportunities despite the velocity at which work, technology, and life keep changing...You have received an exceptional education. Now and for the rest of your lives, Listen to your heart and your passions and ask yourself: How do I share what I’ve learned? What am I called to do in this world?”

Congratulations to St. Luke’s Class of 2023!
