James Adams ’26 Reflects on Museum Fellowship

James Adams ’26
The Aldrich Museum is a contemporary art museum located in Ridgefield, Connecticut. I have been a member of their teen fellowship program since last year. The fellowship is an excellent opportunity for high school students to engage with gallery staff, exhibiting artists and contemporary art.

As a fellow, a small group of students and I have worked on local events, field trips, and installations. Traditionally, our work throughout the semester accumulates into a large final project. Last spring semester, we collaborated with Afghan artist Hangama Amiri to construct a large sculpture. Specifically, we bought and decorated an old wooden door to represent the uniqueness and abstractness of a “home.”

Similarly, this year, we are creating a colorful and interactive kaleidoscope for museum visitors. Overall, it has been a great experience. I have experimented with various mediums and worked with teenagers across Connecticut. I highly recommend the program to anyone interested in modern art or a museum’s inner workings.
