MS Artwork of the Week: Alex Letters '23 and Jack Fitzgibbon '21

Haley Wulfman
Lino block plant print
Alex Letters '23
Sometimes, printmaking takes real bravery. After carving this lovely drawing into a linoleum block and experimenting with technique, Alex decided to try a new approach to printing. First, he mixed inks—yellow and red to produce orange, and printed an initial layer. Then, he applied an additional layer of red ink on top. This is how he was able to achieve the hazy color that makes this print so exciting. Nice work, Alex!

Mountain range + donut moon drawing
Jack Fitzgibbon '21
Take a look. Doesn’t this picture just POP? Jack switched between super dark darks and super bright whites in this drawing to give these mountains such dramatic contrast. To create the haziness in the sky, he smudged a layer of pencil, and then, instead of the moon that we’d expect, he erased away to create a donut. Bravo, Jack!
