St. Luke's Competes at CT Debate Tournament

By: Meredith MacLeod, St. Luke’s Debate Coach
On Saturday, Dec. 11, St. Luke's varsity debate team competed against 30 high schools in the Connecticut Debate Association's winter tournament. The 221 competitors debated virtually on the topic: This house believes the U.S. should defend Taiwan. Each debate team had one hour to prepare both an affirmative and negative case on the topic, which was followed by 54-minute debate rounds that included 16-minute cross-examination periods.

Charlie Adams ‘24, Will Drapkin ‘24, Sally Picon ‘24, Dash Gilrain-Lennon ‘25, Chris Briggs ‘24, and Laurel Aronian ‘25 participated. Debate partners Drapkin and Picon and Gilrain-Lennon and Briggs placed in the top ten teams. Drapkin placed third Overall Best Speaker, and Adams achieved fourth Overall Best Speaker. With a 3-0 record, Briggs and Gilrain-Lennon remain undefeated.
