St. Luke's Girls Lacrosse: Season Outlook

The Varsity Girls Lacrosse team has hit the ground running, literally, according to Head Coach Katie Owsley. To prepare for the start of the season, the team started with getting their legs and lungs used to the pace of fast lacrosse, which is how Owsley hopes the team will play this season. 

Communication Is Key

This year’s captains are Lily Carre ‘24, Pearse Connell ‘24 and Georgia Bennett ‘25, and all three bring a unique set of skills and experience with them to the role. The voices of the Storm captains can be heard anywhere on the field, with Carre and Connell acting as the “anchors” of the defense and Bennett “spearheading” the team’s attack. Alongside their breadth of presence, Owsley mentions that all three captains “are doing a great job building team morale and communications.” With spring being such a short season, the captains play a pivotal role in accelerating the connections the team needs to make on and off the field in order to be successful. 

Getting Synced Up

According to Owsley, these connections have already begun, as she mentions that Ingrid Kerr ‘25, Maggie Fleuette ‘25, Georgi Owsley ‘25, and Bebe Carter ‘25 have “synced up and are playing off of each other really well.” In addition, the versatility of Sarah Lau ‘24 has already made a significant positive impact on the team’s ball movement through the midfield. Newcomers Zoe Brody ‘27 and Sophie Stimpson ‘28 have also been early difference makers, with Brody using her athleticism to transition the ball quickly and Stimpson coming up with several impressive saves between the pipes. 

Confidence Against Tough Competition 

Owsley hopes their widespread individual talent on the team will translate to a strong, fast, confident team game that takes their competition by storm. Owsley commented, “All of us coaches are really excited to see an elevated level of lacrosse as they work together.” With one win already under their belts, the Storm are ready to take on the challenging competition of Fairfield County. It won’t be easy, but they have all the pieces needed to complete the puzzle. With their speed, skill, and athleticism, they will certainly be a team to watch this season!
