History Teachers Explore Vietnam

V. Parker
From US History Chair Jason Haynes:

What happens when a group of six St. Luke's teachers explore a foreign country together?

During spring break, Upper School history teachers had a chance to find out as Abby Bielski, Samantha Gordon, Hunter Martin, Mitch Murphy, David Parsons and I traveled to Vietnam for twelve days of exploration and learning. As we made our way down through the country, passing through four very different cities, we encountered many aspects of the country—from its ancient culture to its long history (including memories of "the American War") to Vietnam’s contemporary emergence as a global economic power.

Having the chance to share these experiences allowed us to collaborate in real time and discuss how it is relevant to what we teach and how we teach it. Back on the Hilltop, we’ve been reflecting on all that we learned and are discussing ways to share it with the St. Luke's community.
